Katie Kaars is an established Sydney-based photographer with over 15 years of industry experience. Her work focuses on the connection between people and place. Katie’s current key clients include SJB Australia, Western Sydney University, Prospa and Monocle.
Since graduating from Sydney College of the Arts – with first class honours and a Photomedia major – Katie has worked with renowned photography artists and creative studios, both locally and overseas. Early in her career she worked with Australian fashion photographer Richard Bailey, before moving to New York City and then London where she continued to develop her portfolio and client-base. During her time in NYC she worked with Steven Klein, Tony Ward and Stefan Sednaoui.
Katie spent seven years in London and was commissioned by a number of record labels to shoot some of the UK's biggest acts including, The Streets, Dizzee Rascal, Jamie T, VV Brown, Florence & the Machine, Peter Hook (New Order), Gabriella Cilmi and KT Tunstall. Katie’s work has been showcased at galleries and exhibitions around the world and has featured in publications such as, i-D, Marie Claire, Time Out London, Oyster Magazine, Esquire, Wig Magazine, Vogue Nippon, Vogue China, Company and Grazia.
Katie has always enjoyed working with people. Throughout her career she’s been involved in director and curator roles at leading galleries, studios and retail channels. She has established close industry relationships and continues to work with many previous colleagues and clients. Katie also enjoys the challenge of learning and adapting to new environments and client styles.
Now living in Sydney with her husband and two young kids, Katie is currently working on a personal project Creative Women's Business.
Her work is influenced by Martin Parr, Tina Barney, Tim Walker and Patti Smith.
